Eastside Cafe is the founding restaurant of the AIDS Services of Austin’s Dining for Life event. It was 1992, and Elaine Martin, Eastside Cafe’s chef/owner; Dorsey Barger, Eastside’s co-founder who has since gone on to open HausBar Farms; and Kathy Taylor, a longtime friend of theirs, enlisted a small band of volunteers to found the community wide event we now know as Dining for Life. Their efforts demonstrate what’s possible with leadership and commitment to community and the fight against HIV/AIDS. Eastside Cafe has continued the tradition of supporting and participating in the event for the past 22 years.
An integral part of Eastside Cafe’s business has been and always will be generously giving back to their community, and the clients of AIDS Services of Austin have benefited from their generosity. In addition to supporting AIDS Services of Austin, Eastside Cafe has also made donations to many other local charitable causes and organizations including schools and nonprofit organizations. Over the years, Eastside Cafe has become a local landmark, institution, and community gathering spot.
AIDS Services of Austin is extremely grateful to Eastside for their continued support, and we are so glad that we can count on them year after year to join Dining for Life. See a full list of participating restaurants at the Dining for Life website!
