“ASA plays a big role in our community and is very helpful. It’s a great organization that I want to always bring awareness to.”
Kirk Kelso, owner of Kirkwerks, yoga instructor, personal trainer, photographer and singer-extraordinaire, will be putting on a one-of-a-kind benefit performance this weekend. The Austin community is invited to “An Evening with Kirk Kelso” to enjoy a special night of iconic songs and stories from Kirk’s fascinating life, benefiting Ground Floor Theatre and AIDS Services of Austin.
Kirk Kelso does a lot, but he’s definitely an entertainer first. “I love entertaining. Expect to come out to a good time.” Hailing from West Texas, young Kirk found himself frequently dabbling in the creative and imaginative. Shy and precocious, he would spend hours in his backyard doodling and singing when no one was listening, while also devoting a great deal of hours to sports in school. He earned his degree in marketing from Angelo State University and throughout his career, worked with many different organization from the Texas Medical Association, to facilitating a bipolar support group at Charter Hospital to go-go dancing at the Lizard Lounge and conducting research at Flood Data Services.
All his unique qualities have combined in the creation of this fundraiser show. “I’ve known people that have suffered and who have died and also those who have continued to survive and thrive due to the help of AIDS Services of Austin,” he explains.
As his background shows, Kirk loves helping people live happy, healthy, esteemed lives. Above all, Kirk wants to share his love of people through his show.
“I don’t want to give too much away … but I’ll be singing songs that are well known from different genres, so there’s something for everyone!” says Kirk.
