ASA’s Testing and Linkage to Care program allows free access to HIV testing services, counseling, and connections to needed community resources. It is designed to assist individuals in evaluating how their behavior may put them at risk for HIV infection and provide a safe, compassionate, and resource-rich space to discuss challenges and successes in reducing their risk.
Last year, ASA provided more than 1,600 HIV tests free of charge to Central Texans. Call 512-458-TEST (8378) to find out about testing times and locations. Our TLC Testing Team offers regular FREE testing at community events and other testing sites. Or drop by one of our free weekly test sites:

What to Expect
When you first arrive, you’ll get to talk to a Risk Reduction Counselor, learning more about how to protect yourself, assessing your own personal risk, and creating a risk reduction goal. The Counselor can also provide information on Hepatitis and other sexually transmitted infections as well as ways to reduce infection risk, proper condom use, how to notify your partners of your status, community resources, and disease management.
HIV testing is done by collecting a blood droplet sample through a finger stick. Results will be available the same day, usually within 30 minutes, and anonymous testing is available. Anyone receiving a preliminary positive result will be provided with additional confirmatory testing as well as linkage to support groups, medical care, and other resources. Appointments are suggested, but walk-ins will be seen on a first-come first-served basis and will be screened for eligibility.
Individuals interested in getting an HIV test at ASA should contact a Prevention Team member at 512-458-2437 to discuss eligibility and to make an appointment. Hepatitis C and Syphilis tests are also available for certain eligible clients.
Our Prevention Team travels throughout the Central Texas area in order to reach individuals at the highest risk of HIV infection. Our methods range from going to different neighborhoods, partnering with community leaders, and using innovative marketing campaigns with fliers and online promotion. We work to modify all our outreach efforts as needed help to best reach current and emerging risk populations. Often, the people we try help are individuals who have little to no access to health, wellness, or medical care.
Mobile Testing Van
ASA is excited to announce the arrival of our new mobile testing van! While it’s currently white, we’re working to get it wrapped so it will be easily recognizable. The testing van will allow us to come to you and it has two confidential and comfortable testing areas! Learn more about the van on our blog. Keep checking this page to learn more about the van and where you can find it around town.
