The AIDS Memorial Quilt
Founded in 1987, The AIDS Memorial Quilt is a poignant memorial, a powerful tool for use in preventing new HIV infections, and the largest ongoing community arts project in the world. Virtually every one of the more than 40,000 colorful panels that make up the Quilt memorializes the life of a person lost to AIDS.
Blocks from the quilt will be on display throughout Austin in the month of October.
The AIDS Memorial Quilt is on display as part of Austin Red Week, a week of events to raise funds and awareness for HIV and AIDS in Central Texas. Other Red Week events include the OctoTea Dance, National Latino HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, and AIDS Walk Austin.
