First-time Walker?
Thank you for registering for the AIDS Walk. You are walking for people like Lorena, who was diagnosed with HIV three years ago.
Lorena is a loving wife and mother to a three year old child. Despite the
fact that Lorena has recently become infected, she has managed to work a full
time job and attend all of her medical appointments. Lorena wants you to know that, without the help and
support she receives through the Advocacy Program at ASA, the transition to
accessing medical care would have been scary to go through alone.
Lorena continues to struggle with many complications of this disease, but she continues to exude the beauty that shines through each time we see her.
When you support the AIDS Walk, you know that you are helping Lorena and hundreds like her. Thank you for your support!
Why we walk We walk to
honor, remember, and to raise funds to address this issue in our
community. There are an estimated 6,000 people living with HIV and AIDS
in Central Texas. About 20 percent of those 6,000 people are unaware of
their status.
The
money you help raise goes to AIDS Services of Austin and the
fundraising teams of Austin's other outstanding AIDS service and
education providers. By walking, you are helping to raise HIV awareness, reduce stigma, and raise funds for life-saving services right here in Central Texas.
